    Default Quote for service

Car was in dealership today, so asked for a quote for next service
    "Car not due until December"
I know, but the service indicator only has 8K miles left on it, and previously that means about 4 weeks as that often disappears quite quickly as the oil degrades

Gave them a sheet with a list of the points and parts to be replaced
Major service equivalent to 6th service, 180K miles
    Oil 5W30 GM-LL
    Oil Filter
    Pollen Filter
    Air Filter
    Fuel Filter
    Brake Fluid change

I then pointed out I was unsure if some points had not been completed on previous services and so may be due or overdue

    Quote :
£145 inclusive of VAT and parts

I paid the same £145.00 inc for my 40k 3 weeks ago (my admin's sister works in a dealership), prices varied from £209-£316

Really strange, as the previous four services were all paid for by Vauxhall Warranties, and the dealership invoiced them £150 plus VAT, no matter what was required

Furthermore, the 3.0 V6 CDTI requires 7.25 litres of oil, and that alone costs £80

I trimmed out some of the "pointless" points
Check remote batteries, bulbs, and wiper blades sorry but I can do them!

I don't particularly care what they do as long as they stamp the book, in fact i would prefer if they only changed the oil and filters. This is the first time I have taken it to a VH dealer for service, the wifes works @ a VW dealer and they do everything barring warranty.

What are you putting in it.? Liquid gold.

I put this stuff in mine and it costs £30 for 5 litres.

    Costs £40 incl VAT
I have not applied the discount that I would get to that
The last one I bought was £28
Even then, that is still 1/3rd of the service cost...

That's no too bad price at all, especially with a time consuming brake fluid change. Let us know how they get on with the brake nipples after 180K mate.

Fellas, fellas, do you REALLY think the Vx dealer is paying the same price for the oil that you or I can buy it for (no matter how cheap we buy it, or what discounts we get). Firstly they probably order 10 barrels at a time, secondly it comes straight from the wholesaler. If you can buy good oil at £20 for 5 litres (an example price), they can get it for about £8.
