    Default Signum Towbar

Following my last thread about towing with a Signum (and thanks for all the Good news) I now need to get a towbar fitted. Vauxhall quoted £515(yikes!), my local indespension dealer £380(for detachable Brink).
Seems like you have to cut the bumper for the detachable towbar...or does anyone know different?
    I'd appreciate any help.

I bought the complete detachable Vauxhall towbar with 12N and 12S electrics for £296 inc VAT, fitted it myself which took only 2.5 hours.

The instructions do state to cut the bumper but you don't actually need to, it was the same with my Zafira GSi, stated to cut it but you don;t need to.

As far as I aware, on the genuine Vauxhall kit for the Signum you don;t need to cut anything.

It all depends on how well you get on with your dealer. They did'nt charge me to do my Vectra, and when we needed to do my dads new Zafira, I went down there and used tech 2 and did it myself.

But in answer to your question, if you use the proper plug in electrics you will need to programme the car.

    Hi,
Excuse me for asking but what is this 'tech 2 malarky'. Any towbars I have had fitted in the past just tap in to existing wires - does the signum have some special connector or something which means the electronics need re-programmed or something? My omega had a really annoying bleeper in then boot, which you couldn't always hear if the boot was full - does the signum have have something in the dash which tells you if the inidcators are working.
Excuse my lack of car tech knowledge but I just usually take the car to the garage when anything needs done!

the Tech 2 is the programming unit and diagnostic tool used by the dealers.

When you have a towbar fitted on these Vectra C and Signum, you typically need an 'electrics box' which connects into the rear fuse box. The towing functionality then needs to be activated in the Electonics control modules.

All the rear lights of the vectras and signums use Can-bus (Controlled Area Network-Bus), so if you tapped into it the control unit will have a hissy fit , modern cars really are a pain to work on as most ingnition controlled systems are now done with the can-bus

Fortunatly, the genuine Vauxhall electrics for Vectra C, Signum and Zafira A & B do not have the bleeper, thank god!!!
