claying should be done directly after you've washed and dried the car. it comes before any product you wish to use on the car.

the clay may well reduce the swirls but its main function is to removed any stuck on road grime and dirt.

the best way to get the swirls out is to polish them out, hand polishing will not get you the results your after - you'll really need a porter cable to get the best finish possible. this is what i'm currently thinking about investing in after a demo.

more information about getting the best finish for your car on www.detailingworld.com

porter cable information can be found on http://www.autopia-carcare.com/how-to.html along with a whole library of cleaning etc.

the clay can be bought from halfords and comes with a bottle which you use as a lubricant - it cost around 12 quid if they have it in stock.

do a site search on "clay bar" and you should come across the How 2 and various other tips and advice

If you drop the bar bin it! Use plenty of lub, Keep it warm so it molds better, always check the surface of the clay for dirt as that will scratch your paint. Start at the top of your car and work down, roof, bonnet, top of doors and so on.
The megs quik clay from halfords is perfect for a first timer and will do the hole car, just!
Oh yes, when the clay get dirty fold it once in half and turn it one quarter in your palm.

Not as long as you think mate. Before you do it wash and dry the car and run your fingers over the bonnet and you will feel tiny imperfections, when you have done it will feel like glass! Warning, this will strip all protection of paint, as in wax, so to do the full job you'll have to wax at least as well.
You might as well go the full hog an polish it as well.
Your avitar looks star silver if so try megs tec wax, its done a cracking job on mine.
With all these extra stages the time does add up though mate, so you best put 3 hours to one side.
