Default I could Kill Admirial Insurance

    Hi,
I recently purchased a 2005 Vectra CDTi 120 in an effort to save a little money phoned up the insurance company to tell them oh I have just sold the MGZT 190 Insurance Group 15 and replaced it with the Vectra Insurance Group 11-12 and was told ok sir thatís an additional premium of £13 per month LOL
I had a massive go at them and got the response we don't use insurance groups, so I got a quote on both cars from swift cover MG ZT £640 I have my under 25 Girlfriend on it and then the Vecta £425. I phoned Admiral back and said look these are the quotes I got, they responded with they must calculate there policy differently I said I guess they do there better than you.

So I said well I will cancel the insurance then, they said fine that will be an additional £45 on this months premium.

Anyone got a plan I could use to get them to see sense.

Although my girlfriend wasn't on my insurance when I owned a 400bhp Skyline GTR Vspec the Vectra is almost as expensive.

Leave them mate and go to Adrian Flux or Chris Knott, these are insurance companies that give a damn about customers and at least when you call them you don't get transfered to the other side of the world.

If your gonna be modding the car one of the above companies would be better for that too. That why I left admiral

I had dealings with them years ago and swore i would never go back, best bet is use the compare sites and get a more realistic insurance quote then give them 30 days notice(as far as i'm aware they can only charge the standard monthly charge if you give full notice) then go with a proper insurance company with a realistic quote

Btw - i think the 120 is insurance group 10

The only things I'm going to do is replace springs with Pi or EiBach, airfilter and tuning box.

Just really annoys me that any other industry in the world would say you found it for how much ok lets see what we can do.

He even had the cheek to say will you let us quote for next year, I lost at this point and told him that Admiral Insurance was a pile of sh.. and that even if they are the lowest next year I will not go with them. Incase I fancy changing to a 2cv or something and have to pay an additional £50 per month or something.

I am sure if you were to push, they would say that the insurance environment has changed since you took out the policy, meaning that even the lower group car is more expensive to ensure than you old car was when you took the policy out. I have found that all motor insurance companies are happy to charge you extra if you make any changes (new car, new address etc) but rarely offer money back or even just to keep the price the same. I have been charged extra for moving house even when it has been to a lower risk area. Your other quotes are different, that is quoting a new policy, directly comparing two different group cars in otherwise identical circumstances. In Admirals defense, they allowed me to keep motoring a few years ago after I had a run of bad luck, and most companies either would not quote or would only quote city figures. They also worked very efficiently when I had to make a claim. Much better service than any other insurance company I have used. Have not been with them for a few years now as for some reason after years of being by far the cheapest, they suddenly stopped being competitive for me. If they did once again offer a good quote, I would not hesitate to use them or any of their sisters (Elephant, Bell etc) again.

Oh I am sure the 120 CDTi is group 9 or 10, my 150 is group 11, my old Mondeo 115bhp was group 9.
