    Default oil leaking...

    me AGAIN

ok been inspecting the engine bay some more and noticed some fresh looking oil. who would like to be first to tell me whats in the area the arrows are pointing to n what it could be. i think its coming from a gasket, doesn't seem to be dribbling down from anywhere above that line where the oil is. is the dimpled looking silver round thing the turbo or part of it? (see how much i don't know!!)

Pull that small rubber hose off and see if it is full of oil.

If it is (you get much choice in this but empty it) check it again after a day or so, some oil is normal but if its pouring out you need a new vacumme pump.

the round dimpled thing is the vacuum pump, there is a tin gasket between that and the engine. might just need a new gasket and easy to change, pump held on with three bolts, thats it. As roswell says, check the pipe for oil, the pump on my 120 failed and filled the vac tube with oil so much, the turbo wasnt kicking in properly. New pump cured it.

nope the tubes are bone dry but i'll look closely tomorrow and see if i can see exactly where its coming from, i think it looks like the main gasket on the engine section (not a technical term obviously) as it also goes round the corner to the front of the engine too but only a lil bit

yeah thats what it looks like to me to be honest, gonna change that pump gasket anyway cos im starting to enjoy taking this car to pieces and i'll take sum pic as I know you guys like to see what bits look like when they're off.

do you think the cam cover gasket would affect anything and is it a DIY job or garage? Have done it before on an old cavalier 1.6 (my first car) and that was quite easy but i expect things have moved on somewhat in 16 or so years

I dont like doing this...but would a haynes manual tell how to do the cam cover gasket? I cant find one that covers my car exactly as its a 56 plate n they dont seem to have an upto date book. I find haynes manuals go the long route and im sure it is easier when the engine is out of the car

I think you need ribe sockets for the cam cover bolts (good old fiat) and theres plenty of stuff in the way so if your in any doubt get a mechanic to sort it for you.
