Default Signum Tank size and mpg query?

Just brought a 55 reg signum 3.0 CDTI. I have a query on the size of the fuel tank - handbook states it should be a 60 litre tank. When i filled it up with 11miles remaining and the low fuel indicator lit up i only managed to fill up 46 litres. So i guessing that i have only got a 50 litre tank? Does this sound right?

On my first full tank i have only managed to get 320miles to the full tank, which seems quite low. But assuming if my tank is 50 litres then this is ok? What sort of mileage are other 3.0 CDTI owners getting?

    Thanks in advance.

Its a 60 litre tank. The fuel computers are not accurate at the best of times. Its also a bit of a safety feature as it will help to stop you running out of fuel.

I was always led to believe that when a typical car says it empty, there's actually still a gallon or two left in it, call it reserve if you like...

I remember a Top Gear episode once, where they had to get from somewhere to Blackpool on one tank, towards the end they had been nursing their cars up the motorway for well over 50 miles with their cars reading empty.. (normal folk like us wouldnt dare stay on a motorway if tank says empty)

cheers guy. Will fill it up again when I'm nearly empty again and see how much goes in. I know there is a bit of reserve but wasn't expecting to fill it up with only 46 litres. Previous cars of mine with 60 litre tanks would still take around 55 litres when the low warning indicator came on.

So on a full tank how much mileage are you guys getting?

I get anything from 290 (local mileage only) to 450 (motorway driving) I think the manual says something like, "even when the range show zero, some fuel remains in the tank". In practice, it's about a gallon.
