    Smile Towing with a Signum

    Hi,
Anyone out there tow with a Signum. I've just bought a 3.0 V6 Diesel Elite Model after driving one and being blown away by its performance and economy. Its 8 months old with 10k miles and got it for 50% off new list price - I get in 2 weeks time.
Its to replace my beloved Omega which is a superb towcar, but I'm having a problem finding anyone who has towed with the signum.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Derek

I've towed with both a Vectra-C Hatch and Estate. The Hatch - what a nightmare but I do belive that was a one off case.

The Esate which has the same wheel base as the Signum tows brilliantly, we have a 1.9 (150) CDTI, towing a 5 berth abbey, and we have no probs and no performance issues when towing, so the 3.0 CDTI will be even better.

    Enjoy your new car!

I did 1300 miles during my holiday to France, 1000 of them actually towing.

I have a 2005 Coachman Amara 520/4 which fully laden weighs in at 1455kg, so it is a heavy van, butt he car did not miss a beat. It was brilliant. Towed really well and got an average of 30-31mpg.

I can't praise the car enough for towing, the Signum in theory should be a little better due to the fact it has very little overhang behind the rear wheels, but then again my hatch was a dream.
Decho, is your 3.0 an auto? only downside to the 3.0 auto's is there low max tow rate.

Vectra 3.0 CDTi auto estate can only pull 1200kg
Signum 3.0 CDTi auto estate can only pull 1400kg

But the manuals including the 1.9 150 can pull 1600kg.

    Matt,
Thanks, mine is a manual - I did check this, although I'm not really sure why the auto should have such a low tow weight. My omega is auto and it tows like a dream!
My van is a Swift Challenger 540 with MTPLM of 1500Kgs so I think it will match ok. Out of interest do you manage to keep to the noseweight limit of 78Kg.

Go for a nose weight of 100kg and you will get more stability, although you shouldn't go over 75kg

The Omega auto box is pretty much bullet proof because of it's origins and being a rear wheel drive layout, this type of gear box is better.

The Vectra/Signum 3.0 auto box is quite weak, Vauxhall even reduce the torque on the 3.0 auto compared to the manual by some 25 lb/ft.

Regarding the noseweight, I have always managed to keep it no more than the 78kg's, although Towequipe and I believe Towsure and Witter only have a 75kg limit. The Vauxhall detchable bar is 78kg.s

    But so far no problems!!!
