I've been on windows 7 for a while now, no problems at all, I'm very impressed with it.

As said already Windows 7 is brilliant.. I went to it from XP, I steered clear of Vista as every system I see it on was a dog (Vista was just a poorly bult beta trial for Win 7 ideas anyway) Everything I used on XP still works fine on Win 7, and I do use some odd old software.. Win 7 has good compatibility modes if ever you do find an older bit of software doesnt run properly, but Ive not yet had to use it.. Im still using Paint Shop Pro 4, and thats from 1996 ... Win 7, you'll love it when you get used to it.. The start up and shut down times are great too, as good as XP.. Vista could take about 2 weeks to start up n shutdown, lol ..

Windows 7 Starter will do everything just the same as the premium versions. It lacks some of the bells and whistles but nothing that impacts on 3rd party software. You can't change the wall paper which is the main drawback. Got to disagree with nibblitz, Vista was and is a lot better than XP. It really annoys me seeing people cling to a 2002 OS. I upgraded my XP machine to Vista as soon as Vista was out, and other than needing a small RAM increase the system was far more reliable and nicer to use than XP. Windows 7 is again an improvement, but lacks the quick start taskbar which annoyed me, but there is a way to get this back.

    Agreed.

I run Vista on my media centre PC attached to my TV. The media centre interface is so much better, and at the end of the night it shuts down in about 15 seconds which is much faster than XP ever will.

The main restriction with Win7 Starter is that you can only run 3 applications at a time. If you try to start the fourth, you just get an error message.

I have been running Win7 Start on my Netbook for well over 6 months now and only hit the 3 application limit once - when I purposely tried to do it to see what would happen.

This 3 application limit is not a restrictive as it may sound at first...

Have never noticed the 3 app limit because my Windows 7 machine is a netbook, so I only ever have 1 or 2 things running. Now my main machine is a Quad Core with 8GB RAM etc running Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Nice and quick.
