    Unhappy 2.2DTI Problems

My 2.2 Dti has just developed a niose that sounds like a rushing of air when it is in between 1500 - 2750 RPM. It has always had a problem with the car and spanner light coming on and my dealer has never been able (or may be unwilling) to fix it. Any ideas?

Check the hose that 'feeds' the turbo. Mine blew off, anothers has split. Does it smoke and feel sluggish? If so that will probably be it. Oh, and try another dealer.

Cheers Andrew. I am not very good with car mechanics. Is that the pipe that attaches to the Air Flow Meter?

Sorry meant to say. It is quite sluggish within the RPM range and does smoke more than usual. When it gets to 3000 RPM all appears to be ok.

No, the hose at the front of the engine as you look at it, It comes from the turbo area and goes into the manifold under the 'ecotec' decorative panel. It'll be held on by a jubilee clip.

Yep, definitely sounds like you got a boost leak there m8.
Pop it straight into the dealer if it is still under warranty.
If not, start getting the boost hoses checked out, as these are known to be weak in some cases.

Thanks guys, will have a look today. Can't get it in a dealer until Tuesday but going to the French Med coast on Saturday so hopefully will be an easy fix. Will let you know the outcome.

If you're checking hoses yourself, I'll tell you where mine went.
First take the top plastic cover of the engine. (about three torx bit screws and then pull it up)
You will now see a metal tube coming over the top of the engine, the hose that split on mine, was the rubber hose immediately after this tube on the front of the engine, and the split was hard to find, not immediately obvious as it was underneath as the hose twisted down towards the intercooler so have a good feel around the side/s of the hose you cant see.
My hose looked perfect from the top.

    Talking

Hi Green Growler & Andrew. Spot on diagnosis. Took th ecover off the top of the engine and checked the boost pipe. Was ok from the top but had three large splits in the side on the bend. Managed to get a replacement this afternoon from Hartwell on Kidlington for £75. Took 10 minutes to fit it and the car runs perfect again. Better power now than I have had for a long time.

Once again thanks for your help.
