The oil should be clear for about 2 weeks
After that I would expect it to be the same consistency but much darker
After 10K miles I would expect it to be a dark black

It's the soot that gets in the oil and turns it black not to worry.

In Diesels, Does the Turbo uses the Engine oil to cool itself as in petrol Engines? If so, it could explain (in addition to soot) why diesel oil goes dark quickly..........any suggestions?

Naturall aspirated diesels also turn the oil black quickly
It is due to the high contents of sodium [longname chemical], which is also acidic

Modern (current) synthetic long life oils can cope better than older "diesel" grade oils, quite often these oils were saturated by 10K miles, hence why the service intervals were typically half those of a petrol engine
