    Default 1.8 vvt

    Hey all,

The mother-in-law last night bought an '06 plate Exclusiv 1.8VVT Vec with 32,000 miles on for £4800. Pretty good price I think. Strange as it was at a Ford garage and on their website for £5500, but on Autotrader for £4800!

Anyway - I wasn't able to go to view it but she's bought it anyway, picking up next week, is there anything to look out for on the VVT engine? I take it VVT is Varible Valve Timing? I was shocked to find it's listed as having 138bhp!

She's a serial Vec owner - Got a Vec B up for sale now she's owned for 9 years and was tooling round in her ex's '55 plate Vec for the last few years. She passed on an Astra and Focus for this one!

should be a good car, not a bad price, I have a 04 none vvt, and it has been a very good car, some say you should do the cam belt etc, every 4 years or 60,000 which ever comes the sooner but on that milage, its your choice. just check it gets up to temp, as the stats can give out, but its a cheap fix.

Timing belt on the vvt is 100k or ten years but you might not want to leave it that long.
Saying that mine went ok till 107k before it was changed, The water pump isnt drivin off the belt on vvt,s, its a much better design than the older engines.
They do like to be revved with a step in performance above 4500 rpm, all in all small cc engine for the weight of the car but driven right they are fine, mines a 07 vvt on 113k now and still goes fine, same head as a vxr corsa if you know your engines.
Stats like on lots of vx,s can play up, very expensive from a dealer, over £150, but online for £60ish. Mine has spent 3 years going round europe, seen nearly 140 mph downhill goes to the redline every day and sounds like new, all in all i love em!

Thanks for the info - She did say it didn't feel very nippy as she expected (going from a 1.6 t reg Vec) but on a test drive she wouldn't have hit 4.5k upwards lol. Cambelts on old Cavaliers etc used to be 70k I thought - might be worth doing before 100k.
