Just been replacing my cambelt, tensioner and waterpump and can't seem to get the belt tight enough. Its a bit too dark now so I'll finish up tomorrow.
How do you set the tension? Am I missing something?

IF your using a sealy locking kit as i did, As you stand and look at the engine from the o/s wing with the belt loosely in place and the locking kit on, the right hand side of the belt should be fitted 'TIGHT' from the cam over the idle and the crank, its 43 teeth from the first tooth where the belt makes contact underneath the camgear to the first tooth making contact with the crank (this will give you an idea how tight its needed, fit the rest of the belt in place (all of the slack will be on the left side), the tensioner should be loose but not very loose!, get underneath and put the timing bolt cover bolt back in place just by the tensioner, prise from this onto the tab on the tensioner & the pointer and tensioner will move upwards to tighten (put the pointer just above the round hole on the tensioner. REMOVE THE LOCKING KIT, turn engine by hand a couple of times, re check as many times as you want to gain an even tension all round and to settle the belt in place, the pointer should be level with the round hole, make sure the tensioner is fully tightened. (hope you put a suitable sealer on the water pump bolts!!, or it will leak.)
