    Default Quick tyre question ...

Does anybody know off-hand the tyre spec for a CDTi (150) estate on standard 16" Vx alloys?

(Save me searching for a torch).

I seem to remember the load rating isn't standard.

    Thanks

    215/55R16 93 according to Michelin.

www.blackcircles.com are quoting £110 per corner (fitted) to replace the original Pirelli P7s which seems a bit steep for an everyday tyre.

    Thanks for that.

There's good local outfit here that I'll try as well. Even at £96.90 they're still more than I was expecting. I recently bought some nominally performance tyres (225/45ZR17 Michelin PS2s) and they were 'only' £120 a corner fitted. I've been pleasantly surprised with the Vectra's other running statistics (cheap road tax, long service intervals, etc). I was just assuming that would also extend to the tyres.

Hi, I've got a 150 CDTi Estate. Std tyre is the Bridgestone Turanza in 215/55-16 size but amazingly its only H rated. i.e. up to 130mph only. Now I know the Car is only capable of about that at full chat but it seems ridiculous to me. Vauxhall just quoted its as per normal & Bridgestone just said it was ok. I'm impressed enough with thetyre to put the same on again in about 2k miles, done 18.5k already, but will probably go to the narrower 205 size which is more readily available( & cheaper) This size became the std fitment for Vectras from Mar 2005 so no probs with warranty/insurance. This will be the first time ever I've gone for the same tyre for replacements. Don't want to risk Goodyears after seeing the problems on the forum. Just a note on the Turanzas, very flat wear across the tyre for 18.5k, tracking good & impressive grip for a std tyre. SRi suspension is very good as well.

I have Bridgestones also, well two anyway just replaced the fronts @ 26k, backs are only half gone, I have to say what a superb tyre they are, good even wear, and especially on a cab with the U turning I do 26k is a miracle.

How much are you being quoted for new Turanzas?

My only problem with the Bridgestone Turanza tyre is the amount of road noise they let in.

Apart from that they have been very good.

I'm not a big fan of Pirellis as a rule, but I don't like mixing tyres (or at least tyre makes) if I can avoid it*, and the P7s on the back still have a few thousand miles left in them. I was a bit surprised that it came with P7s TBH as I thought these were primarily an aftermarket tyre, with the P6000 being Pirelli's standard OEM offering.

Whatever, the fronts have lasted less than 17000miles which pretty much stacks up with my previous experience of Pirellis - they're way too soft. I once got through a set of PZeros in 4000 miles

    * Can anyone help me settle a pub argument here. I'm pretty sure it was illegal in Germany to mix different tyre types on the same axle, and different makes on different axles. Am I right?

I'm going to get quotes for Turanzas in 205 & 215 sizes in HR & V/WR ratings. Will let you know shortly on the outcome.
