Default Difference between Irmy petrol and diesel backboxes

Just won an Irmy backbox on ebay, chap said it would fit all petrol and diesel models but i have since seen on Irmscher site that the one i have bought is for petrol models only. The data sheet that came with the box states it as an R2 type but the diesel is an R1 type, (though if you also fit right-hand side boxes they are both R2 type?). Does anyone know the reason for the two different types? I have searched forum and only thing i can find is a mention of more/less internal baffles for sound restriction. I don't want to fit it if it's gonna affect performance in any way...

I'd have said it was more to do with internal baffles and noise suppression as diesels are a bit noisier than petrol, I think as they are carried across both versions that bore and pipe sizes will be the same though.

It came with a removable bore insert and fits from 1.6L to 3.2L so diameter wise i think it'll fit my 1.9. Diesel engines make more noise than petrol but exhaust-wise they're much quieter so maybe petrol version has more baffles so not too good for performance. Any other info/ideas..?

Well irmy UK don't know that much about irmy boxes then do they

This is my back box that was originally from a 1.8/2.2 petrol (mine is a 2.2diesel which has the same bore as the 1.9)

The pipe bores are the same but the diesel ones have a flare on them where as the petrol ones don't. All I did was take it to my local custom exhaust place and they fitted it for 60 quid. This included them flaring the bore so it looks factory.

There should be no restriction issues as the Irmy boxes are free flowing compared to a standard exhaust anyway. I have noticed more black marks on the back of my car than before so it can't be any more restictive than the standard SRi exhaust. Hope that helps

Cheers all for replies. There's still a years vx warranty left so it has to fit/look tidy in case i have to claim on something and they use the exhaust as a get-out-clause coz it's not the right one. I wanted to fit duplex standard sri boxes but the woman at my local vx said if it wasn't fitted to the car from factory it would void a claim. I'm assuming Irmscher parts are an exception to this. Will take it to Welsh Coast Customs tomoz and see what they can do...
