Are 2.2 DTi SRi's rare as hens teeth?

G'day all.

Know I'm not a huge poster on here but with any luck that'll change. Been looking around at Vectra's for a while now and went to see a 2.2 DTi SRi the other day, black with tinted windows. Nice car, needed the odd little job but it's the kind of thing I enjoy doing. Someone beat me to it unfortunately.

Now being 18, I was amazed to find the insurance for this is much cheaper than my current 1.0 Corsa. Which needs new CV joints, timing chain, rear tyre and a head gasket. W00t for having most of your oil in the coolant bottle. £600 less infact. 1.9's are much higher but the 2.2 appears to be a bit of a bargain for someone my age who likes big cars. It's cheaper than pretty much everything to insure.

The problem is, they don't seem to exist! I've seen very few of them around and am still on the lookout before the Corsa falls to bits. Where would you guys and girls recommend looking? I can't take my car too far, Preston the other day was pushing it (live on the Wirral). Or more to the point, where are the high mileage ones going? Being a student the max I can really spend is £3000. The Corsa was valued at £1000.

If anyone knows of some 80-90k 2.2 DTi SRi's going up this neck of the woods, please give me a shout!

Ummm, mate, are you sure about the insurance being cheaper?... Ive just had a quick check and as far as I can see, your insurance would be a lot lot more if you went from a 1 litre Corsa upto a one of these Vectras..

Compare the Market, 03 cars, 18 years old driver. One Years No claims.. ThirdPartyFireTheft..

Corsa 1.0 is £1372
Vectra 2.2DTI SRI is £2088

I live in Plymouth and ended up driving up to Liverpool to get my 2.2dti! It was an 11 hour round trip with a mate! Think you may have to look further a field!

Yup, I didn't quite believe it myself. I rang up Aviva to double check it and it was all correct. 18 years old, 1 years NCB with pass plus, 8000 miles per year, fully comp, me as the main driver. Came out at just shy of £1500.

That's quite a trek! I have no friends that would do that. If I have to look further afield I will do.

You might be better off going for a 2.2DTI in say maybe an elegance or Elite as these might have better equipment as its fairly easy to put sports suspension on it etc if you really wanted that.

That's something I looked into. One of the things it did was put the insurance price up. Visual modifications didn't really affect it much but changing the suspension, backbox to the SRi one etc really hiked it up.

Keep looking you will find one. There is car out there for everyone if you look hard enough
