Default This Forum has Depressed me

Bought my 05 SRI 2.2 Direct a couple of weeks ago, then joined this forum..

Either I shouldnt have bought the Car, or shouldnt have joined this forum.. Have been reading loads of threads since joining, and now Im left thinking my car is.....

    1. Going to conk out every 6 months or so because of a dodgey high doodah fuel pump. 600 quid bill.
    2. Coil springs are going to break at least once a year.
    3. Rear tyres will need replacing at half life to cure a droaning noise.
    4. The Cam Chain will snap unless I do an oil change after every shopping trip.
    5. There's more horrors Ive read here but cant remember.

Please, please, somebody here tell me Ive bought a good car really.. And, also convince me that buying a direct injection actually makes sense. Please...

you can say no to all of them wont happen that often... and not even sure it will happen to you.

remember you only read threads about where it went wrong.. not where there wasnt any problems..

but one thing that will happen.. if not happend before thats a spring that will break..

Ha, yes, the Car was found to have a broken spring when I put through an MOT.. So what preventative measure can I take. Other cars dont bust springs. When one breaks again can I ask for a different spring to be fitted, say like one that rides the same as the OEM spring but unlike a GM part it wont regularly break.. (Im thinking Mondeo springs on a Vectra, lol)

sell the car, leave the forum,,,,,, simples,,,,, then, buy a mondeo, join that club, THEN YOU WILL KNOW PROBLEMS..............

or, stick with the devil you know,,,like ken says forums are where you read about things that CAN go wrong, not WILL...even springs, once you replace factory with something else, generally no more problems

other cars bust springs too, i work in the motor factors, we sell in excess of 100 springs,,PER WEEK for all makes.

I thought exactly the same when I joined m8 but....

A car is a car is a car

and they all go wrong somehow, but how many cars do you know that have a forum like this.

You have bought it now so you might as well drive it around for a while, the 2.2 is by all accounts an excellent smooth engine and once that vec has it's claws into you, you may not want to let it go

By the way, a lot of people go for the Eibach Pro springs which apparently are cheaper than standard Vx items. They also transform the handling.

I need to change mine too at some point

lol, nahh, I dont want a Mondeo.. Thanks for your words, I feel a bit better now. Oh its just me really, all this worry about repair and maintenance costs I never had when I was a company car driver, used to get a new car every 2 years.. sobs sobs, oh and I miss the Fuel Card too..

Back to me Veccy, this High Pressure Fuel pump mallarky I read about.. Is the Direct Injection side of it actually worth it when weighed up against the fragility of the system.. Like, does it offer any real advantage over the non direct engines?

And I'll look into them Eibach springs.. Do they need to all be changed to Eibachs at the same time, or can they individually be replaced as and when one of the old one breaks?

Speak to any MOT tester and they will tell you how many cars bust springs. Our Fiat did, my mothers new Corsa did, my Father's new Mondy did, its not the car mate its the roads and speed humps. Your chain will be fine, don't get confused with old 2.2's in vec B's, although get it checked at 70k. Fuel pump, well what can I say.......sorry its a gonna LOL.

    Welcome...

The 2.2 Direct has a recall in place for the Fuel Pressure Regulator (one of the known faults). Call your local VX dealer. They'll sort it out free of charge.

I've had my 2005 2.2 Direct (Elite) for 2 years now. Not a SINGLE problem in 35,000 miles of driving. Its actually a very good car.

Just change springs/shocks when you get to about 40-50,000 miles. They'll be due a change anyway - and should give a better ride.

When you change the tyres, try going for Falken, Kumho or Michelin. These seem to suit the car and cure the road noise.

    Enjoy your car.

Really???? Even though I bought my car second hand, and its now 5 years old, and its driving ok at the moment, a VX dealer will still fit a new fuel regulator thingie free of charge?? Does it matter my Service book stamps are not all VX garages?
