Default you are joking me, aint ya....

got my tuning box in the post today, fitted it while at work to see, umm nice power, on setting 3 of 8, fantastic, got home from work and rang churchill to see how much for a spcified rough figure of 30bhp increase,

cant insure me, was paying £492.03 for the year over monthly instalments
no cancellation charge if i wanted to cancel and still have it on there with another insurance co,

ok so ill go compare it for a rough price which will include the modification classed as Chipped/engine management system

Usual way to guess is to load your current premium by the percentage increase in performance. Then add on another 10% to pay for the bubbly at their shareholders meeting.

Dont go modding your car and not telling your insurance, you get involved in a larger crash involving the police and see how easy it is to just take your performance mods off while they are there.

Simple solution is to check with insurance prior to purchasing, also some insurance companies are less friendly with modded cars. Chris knott and Adrian flux are my usual stomping grounds for modded car insurance or performance car insurance.

Exactly! Then your car's recovered off by Police as the accident warrants it, they examine it and lo and behold what's that box of tricks attached in the engine (they'll know what it is). Insurers find out and you're stuffed, not to mention the Police may want to also deal with it. There's a charge IIRC something along the lines of "..procuring a pecuniary advantage with regards to insurance". Not the exact wording, but you get the gist - basically having something done to your car that would usually result in a higher premium and not telling them.

Have you tried Chris Knott for a quote?

True but its what 90% of people do. And then you have the Remaps that cant be discovered by just lifting the bonnet.

My friend works in insurance and told me that the only time they really pick over cars is when the car is of very very high value or it has moddifications that exceed the value of the car.
Such as a Skyline with 28K worth of mods that they refused to pay out for because the guy failed to declare uprated cams despite listing every other mod he had done to the car.
