7hrs is fair to drop the box and remove and refit he may well do it in 6 but why should he rush, Would you rush as a taxi driver and go the cheap way to town?

Every time I get in a cab they drive past the Empire State Building 3 times, and then claim they were lost....

Mechanics get a bad name on most forums,So im sticking up for them besides i am one.!

Plus you have to factor in time to replinish the gear box with oil and drain it which not all do but you should, Time for a cup of tea and your break just like a taxi driver gets and any other worker.

Is it any wonder some get a bad name though? Surly it should just be 5 hours for the whole job as the clutch has to come off and be refitted anyway. I mean 2 hours for the DMF, is it not just 6 bolts that hold it on?

TIS states a max 4.8 hours to remove and install the clutch, a further 0.6 of an hour to change the dmf, 0.3 hours to change the release bearing and 0.2 of an hour to remove and replace the engine splash shield.

So all in all about 7 hours to do the lot. So maybe he was right

If he rushes it and makes a mistake because you said it can be done in so many hours you will be the first to be moaning it was rushed.!

So he quotes 7 hrs on the safe side and he may not be using air tools lots of mechanics like to take pride in there work and leave the gun for the big bolts.

7 hours is a fair estimate, if the flywheel has 'spun' on the bolts, it's the devils own job to get it off.
