Air Con Compressor Electrics

I think my air con compressor is faulty as the system no longer works, has been re-gassed without any leaks.

On the front of the compressor there is an electrical connector with 2 wires that I can see, would this carry the positive and negative power, looks like a brown and a black wire. My plan is to remove this connector and check for voltage, I was also planning to run a temp positive and negative to this connector to check if the magnetic clutch engages, I guess this would prove if the unit is duff.

Does this sound right, anyone have any thoughts on this?
