    Default Vectras - Poor Build

It might just be me or it might be down to the fact that my car is a taxi, but the build quality is beginning to get horrendous. really not impressed,

for a start, just above the passenger airbag in my dash where it says "AIRBAG" theres like a ----v---- shape indent in my dash,
-the passenger seat plastic trim covering the seat subframe metal bases has worked loose, so it just sort of sits in place,
    - theres a chip in my rear drivers side plastic footwell trim,
    - the dash plastics must be coated in some sort of rubbery stuff as I had an airfreshener on my indicator stalk which sort of peeled off a layer of the plastic on my steering column shroud, and the plastic trim on the centre console edges just after where the matt-grey/chrome gear gaiter surround is are also peeling a layer of plastic off,
    - and my drivers seat lumbar adjuster and height adjuster icons on the lumbar/height adjuster handles the white is starting to peel off the icons on them.
    - theres a slight tear on my passenger seat where the patterned trim (e.g. the duke trim on a SRi) meets the plain black seat trim on the bolsters,
    - the seat trim itself and the door card trim material is all bobbled,
    - near the trim stitching on the backs of the front seats and at the edges where the material on the rear of the seat meets the side is becoming all pulled, and frayed

Its getting to the stage my old wrecked mk3 astra (1997) looks better nick inside than my vectra (2005 car), Vec material is nice, comfortable and looks good, not very hard wearing though and seems to be too nice for a car thats used carelessly and worn out as a taxi

afraid nowadays things are made to break so u can buy new again,
in the past things were made to last coz nobody had the money to replace them.

i think most cars will be the same nowadays, don't think the vec is particularly bad for build quality

i have no problems with it although mine is still fairly new, done 17k on mine, whats your mileage?

I disagree, most cars now are built to last.

A few years ago once you hit 50K miles you'd be lucky if it wasn't leaking oil.

It was rare for cars to reach 100K, now they easily pass this (most of the time lol).

If it wasn't the engines, the bodies used to rot to pieces.

Problems now tend to be due to the car being more complicated so there are more electrical faults etc. The basic mechanics though I think are more sturdy.

    good points Ion....

I must say, i was also starting to think my vectra was noisy, harsh ride, not big enough, not fast enough etc etc and then i bought my 1997 astra gsi.

After driving that for a few weeks every day, getting back into the vectra was like stepping into a luxury spa. As soon as i got it and reversed off the drive it occoured to me that i had forgotten how big it is. The way i can spread out is great and made me realise that i actually feel a liitle claustrophobic in the astra. The Aircon is lovely and totally taken for granted until you have to resort to winding down a window. Not great fun when you are driving at 70mph and want to keep cool.

The vectra is extremely quiet with the odd squeak or rattle which seems to come from the central dash area somewhere, although I cant trace it. Its done 32K miles now and is still as fresh as the day I bought it. Its only ever been in the dealer for a 30K service (at 23K) and to sort a faulty climate control servo.

From my experiences of the vectra C (on my second), I can see why the Holden versions in OZ and to some degree the opel versions on the continent are seen more upmarket than they are here, where they are a basic, mass production family car.
