Default Where to put axle stands on front?

May seem an odd question to most of you , but I bought a kit off Halfords with a trolly jack/stands etc, and am going to change the oil soon. In the past ( hangs head in shame ) I have always driven the cars I have owned up on blocks, and squeezed under that way, not very safe I know , and not a lot of room for leverage ( have mangled sump plugs in the past ).
So if anyone has any diagrams or pics, or idiot guides as I have only ever done basics on cars - oil - filters - coolant renewals. I would be greatfull.

Yeah where the arm fixes to the car. They are big and secure so won't bend or break. Not sure if it's the best place just I find it convenient

If you look at the front of the car you will see two small triangles impressed into the sill
Follow these under the car and you will see a square with a hole in the middle
    This is the lifting point

There is a similar one at the rear

Follow the "usual" health & safety guidelines when working under a car; get some other muppet to do it!

Which Vectra do you have as I tried to do an oil change on my 2007 Cdti Estste and couldn't due to the cover underneath. In the end I had to borrow my uncles pit so that the cover could hang down. Try www.national.co.uk for a cheap oil change if you get stuck.
