    Default Ongoing saga

Hi all, as some of you may know I still have an ongoing saga of my Gsi Idling roughly, I took it into the dealer, they had it on Mon & Tue, apparently had 3 different people look at it and someone even drove it home on Mon night and returned to work in it the next morning 70mile round trip! So they call me on Tue and say thereís nowt wrong with it, I says, no I didnít bring it in to ask you if there was something wrong with it, I brought it in telling you there was something wrong with it and for you to find out what. (a bit pompous I know, but Iím getting fed up by now Ė I had to endure 2 days of a 1.0L 3 cylinder Corsa for 2 days ) As it happens, there was another customers GSi that I spotted on the forecourt when I went to pick it up, so I said to the guy on the service desk can you go and the keys for that car, let me sit in it and feel if that car judders or not. Surprise surprise, it didnít. I said a guarantee you could go in my car now start it up and it would judder, the guy on the service counter said Iíll go and have a word with the foreman and see what he says. A few moments later, they both appear and the foreman says Iíll just go and sit in the other car and see what itís like, a few moments later and they come back and the service guy says, yeah its juddering slightly now, I know it wasnít before but I just felt it. WTF, do these people think Iím a ****** moron So I argue the toss explaining to the foreman that there is something wrong with my car, he says well we canít find anything wrong with it, weíve plugged it onto the tech 2 etc etc, I said the tech 2 doesnít find everything thatís wrong, if a fault is intermittent, it wonít necessarily pick it up. He said well we can also take a data capture of all the readings that the sensor are taking and look at them on the computer (TIS) to check if the values are correct. So basically after a bit of a discussion, he agreed that he could feel the problem that I was talking about, but because there werenít any abnormalities on the tech 2 and data capture he could not diagnose it, he said that I would have to come back in when the car was doing the problem and the only way they would have to do a data capture at the exact time the fault occurred to see what the problem was Ė it only judders for a split second, it would be impossible to capture the data at the exact time! The only explanation that he could give to me was that the O2 sensor takes a reading and resets itself continuously and itís at that moment when it resets itself that I feel the judder in the car.

Iím still not happy, sorry about the long thread, but a problem shared is a problem halved; my Fiancťe is fed up of listening to me! Please, does anybody have any advice on what my next line of action should be? My local dealer is obviously not prepared to spend any more time on the car without getting paid. Will Vaux listen to my problem?? who do i contact there?? Iím at my wits end, I love my car and it drives so smooth, just the idling. I'm also worried about how Iím going to sell it on, who the hells going to buy a car that feels like itís misfiring.

    Please help

    Regards

    Russ

If it were mine, the first port of call would be another dealer, for a second opinion.

If you still are not happy then contact VX customer services and explain your situation, hopefully they can help. You may also find a good independant specialist could help..

Just cos Tech 2 says things are ok, doesn't mean it is. Tech2 is a live data logger as well as a fault diagnostic tool.

Need a good old bit of old fashioned fault diagnosis if you ask me. ****es me off when garages rely solely on the diagnostic machines.

But to be fair, the tech2 is only as good as the operator...

When i worked in the parts department at the local VX dealer a few years ago, the technicians would do exactly the same, if Tech2 doesn't flag a fault then they get confused.

I believe the reason for this is the bonus scheme, they want to get it sorted but if the Tech2 doesn't talk they will just bung the car back out and get the next one in.

If they run out of the cream of the work to earn their bonus quickly, then they may get your's back in for more diagnosis but you don't want to be without your car for that long

Keep on at them and get a second opinion Will be interesting to know how you get on...

I was just about to say much the same. I don't think there is a VX dealer in the country that has proper mechanics anymore, they are just fitters. They rely on that bluddy Tech 2 machine to do their job, if it doesn't show any problems, they'll fire it back out the door saying no fault found. There are two things to blame here, Mainly the insistance on paying the ' mechanics ' a time saved bonus and the lack of any skill in the workshops anymore.

Try getting hold of the service manager and dealer principal. It may help things along nicely if my experience is anything to go by!

Vauxhall customer service? Don't make me laugh. I wrote to Luton SEVERAL times with my problem 1.9 cdti Signum (now gone thank god) and they didn't want to know - they stalled for THREE months before I threatened RMIF and SMMT action (for Vauxhall and dealer respectively)

Try another dealer... then threaten as above.... Should work a treat.

    Question

I would give it a good dose of Redex / Forte fuel system cleaner or Forte gas treatment as you could have a valve not seating correctly in a certain position or it may be a bit sticky. May make no difference but for £20 (for forte) its worth a shot and it ****** good stuff just a bit difficult to find people selling it.

That would be my advice too.

I had a problem with my car a couple of months ago whereas it was grinding at certain revs, and regardless of how many times the dealer heard the noise they stated it was a 'characteristic' of the car and tried to claim that all Veccy Cdti's did it.

After some calls to vx, they suggested that I change dealer. Which I did, and two visits later they had the problem nailed and sorted (it turned out to be a driveshaft bearing had gone)

Unfortunately some dealers are only willing to do work that earns them money, all other warranty type work (especially an intermittant or hard to diagnose fault) they are less than willing to spend time on your car.

I switched and have been over the moon with my new dealer.
