    Eek Couriers

I got a quote for getting a pair of Roof Rails picked up from kenp in Denmark and delivered to me in Fife Scotland.

Where do they get their prices from? cheapest quote that I could get was £750 Think they must be in cahoots with insurance companies lol.

Needless to say I've decided to pass up on the Rails

Is it not worth putting out a request for any members that may be travelling from Europe in the near future and arranging for them to bring them over and then courier within this country?

This is a big club and I'm sure there must be someone doing this.

Unfortunately I've only just returned from Netherlands a week ago.

It's the overall length that's the problem as far as I can tell, a lot of compaines won't quote because of it?

Small courier pickup companies really don't like anything outwith the UK, hence the price
Don't forget you are paying for outward travel, accomodation, import exemption certificate, and return travel

However if that quote is from one of the larger companies, then it appears they have rated it as a commercial item

It may be cheaper to ask the seller to arrange for delivery from there end, even adding £50 for the incovenience of doing so

I recently had to get a part from Budapest
DHL charged me £1150 for next day delivery, which excluded delivery to an oil rig in the North Sea
When I put in the oil rig the charge would have been £3350
Since the employee was going anyway, I paid them an extra £250 to do so

As Ken has said, the size is the biggest issue, most couriers won't quote as they limit the size to around 120-150cm, the quote I did get stated that it would have to be transported on the Vans Roof, thus making it a specialised lift?..................how many courier vans have you seen with roofracks fitted?
