    Default Swirl Valve / Inlet Manifold 1.9 CDTi 150

    1). Can the swirl valve mal-function at any time and are there any signs that it is starting to play up?

    2). If it mal-functions whilst away on holidays towing, would the car still be driveable to get me home?

    3). What are the symptoms of it failing?

    hi

    mine went about 50K

    take the cover off your engine and look for swirl bar.

    Is it still attached. If its on its side then yes its died

    If its still on check all four pins. Maybe one will be off?

    Get someone to rev engine and check the actuator still moves bar ( its controlled from 3rd pin )

    look for greasy / oily mess around the top of the swirls on manifold....usually a giveaway of failure or failure to be

    signs are usually hesitancy initially then spanner light + limp mode until the problem is resolved

    In the end i just took mine off, spanner light went away and yes it drove fine, just a slight loss of real top end power

    I run without it now until can afford new manifold ( resdesigned ).

    Other issues i'd check whilst there

    EGR valve strip and clean ( follow how 2's for all these )

    boost sensor clean

    check boost pipes from vacuum pump

    check intercooler hoses

    trouble is so many of the faults on the 150 seem to have similar symptoms that its really a question of checking things in a logical manner until you find the culprit / culprits

    Have you had the spanner light on? IN that case you should have code to read - again follow how to for free code read then post back here and someone will give you more detailed advice
