Eek Signum 120 CDTi black smoke and loss of power @ low revs!!!!

    Right,

It's a 55 plate 1.9 120 CDTi and just recently it has really started chucking out loads of sooty black smoke in the lower rev range and more recently (last couple of weeks) started beeing amazingly sluggish upto 2.5k revs until it 'clears it's throat'! It doesn't smoke once it's in the higher revs.

It has had the engine rebuilt (head gasket) and has run fine for about 3 months and has also had the EGR cooler, DPF changed as well as air & fuel flters changed and a few doses of fuel cleaner (one direct into the filter/injectors)

    Has anyone else had this?

Guessing it's the EGR vavle or maybe 3rd injector but so many people on here seem to have Vx changinging virtually everything relating to the fuel system and I've already spent about 2k on it since December and I'm now broke!!!!

Anyone got a semi-specific clue as to what it may be??

    Thanx,

    Si

Loss of power upto 2500 revs is often one of the vac pipes (DIY <£20)

The two smaller 1cm diameter pipes that go from the bottom right of the engine bay to the bottom right of the engine block are the usual suspects.
Also there could be a leak in the big pipe going into the throttle body.

    See here: http://www.vectra-c.com/forum/showthread.php?t=109454

Failing that things you could do are, in particular order:

Clean the EGR (DIY FREE apart from carb cleaner)
Clean the Boost Sensor (DIY FREE apart from carb cleaner)
Clean the Throttle Body (DIY FREE apart from carb cleaner)
    Check/repair the 3rd injector wiring (DIY <£20)
Get the intercooler checked out, could have sprung a leak (could be £s)
    Injectors need replacing (££££££££s)

I had no power up to 2500 revs and changing one of the vac pipes sorted the problem out.
I still have a slight misfire/hesitation between 1500 and 2500 revs but it is more of an annoyance and I am working my way through the list above to find out what the problem is.

    Bldy typical!

Been out in it again today and now got the spanner light on if it pulls to hard for too long!

And I need it to go away on a pre-booked holiday tomorrow! And I need to pack/do washing/go shopping and look after the little one tonight too as the Mrs is ill! GRRRRRRRRRR!!!! All comes at once!

Checked the vac pipes, minor exterior perishing on the elbow but still holding!

Think 1st course of action will be the EGR valve! It is on the back of the engine, top right on a 120 CDTi isn't it???

    Thanx

I think I would still replace that pipe. I don't think it takes a lot for it to cause a problem. From the stock thread people have used cheap pipe from the autofactors as its nothing special. Just needs to be the correct diameter.

Yep its on the back right. Its a bit of a ****** on the 120 to get off as the pipe from the exhaust is connected to the bottom of the EGR with a couple of bolts that are very difficult to get at.

Heres a good guide to removing it http://www.saabscene.com/forum/index...topic=31642220
