Default Vectra C (2004 1.9 cdti) black smoke, no turbo, air leak HELP!

    Hi all

First time post so no idea if its int he right place or not.

My car (2004 1.9 cdti vectra c) has had black smoke coming out of it for a few weeks now. Knowing not alot about cars, i suspected it was in need of a service so, between changing the air filter and fuel filter myself and having the oil and filter changed at a garage, I hoped this would solve it.

Apparently not. The smoke has got worse and the turbo is completely ineffective. Having had it back in the garage, there appears to be an air leak which has been traced to the very front of the car. If i Put my hand down the back of the bumper (in between the bumper and the radiator), i can feel air coming out when the engine is ticking over, more so when the throttle is pressed.

any ideas what this could be? is it a case of a pipe having a crack in or something more serious?

any help would be graetfully received!

    Default intercooler

    Hi

That happened to me last year. It turned out to be a hole in the intercooler.

If you take the front bumper off and slide a sheet of a4 paper between the rads you will be able to hear it and identify where it is coming from. If its the intercooler then the a4 sheet will proberly have oil on it.
