I was having a chat with a mate who has his own garage business about electronic clocking of cars milometers etc etc and how the poor punter can avoid buying a real lemon

Conversation was along the lines

With Tech-2 you can alter the mileage shown on the clocks but, cannot easily (or usually too lazy to,,,,) alter the km reading in the engine ecu so even if the speedo says, say 30,164 in miles, the ecu should give a reading in KM's of the same say that becomes 48,540km but it reads 76,340km so your car has been clocked!

Is this right, can it be got at with a laptop? and,,,,,,,,,,would you want to????

not sure on this mate but had a guy approach me not too long ago and asked if id be interested in getting my car clocked, he said for £80 and ten mins he can put the mileage to whatever i want?

it would be stupid one check on the vosa website and check all previous mots and you would find out the real mileage

thats the site there " just enter your reg no and the number on your mot cert and it lists all your previous mots

I had my car on a fault reader and you can check the mileage reading from the ECU in km's to make sure it tallys up with the reading on the dash in miles.

just double checked this and yes it tells you what it failed on and what advisories it has...!
