    Default Previous History

    Hi,

    Looking for some advice.

I've just discovered my 1 previous owner 57 plate SRi which I purchased from Arnold Clark has no service book in with the documentation despite being sold as FSH.

As I've had the car 6 months or so, they dont care and are not being helpful, I've also discovered the car was previously owned by a hire firm so cant really contact the previous owner.

So question is how do I go about obtaining previous history? I emailed Vauxhall they were also rather un helpful...

    Cheers

Call the last owner, if it was owned by a company they will have it all on file.

i had trouble with them a few years back,,, it it states FSH and there isnt any then they have sold the car wrongly under the sales of goods act, NOT AS DESCRIBED,,, i had my megane for 9 months before i found out there wasnt an alarm on the car but they stated there was so i wrote them a letter, and they fitted me an renault alarm for free

going back to the FSH they should take the value of the car having fsh and give you the difference back with the car having no fsh so they give you some money back

I had this once and the previous owner was a leasing company so i wrote to them and they sent me copies of all receipts, photocopies of mots etc.

Its always worth a try, companys are usually more helpful than normal owners as they have to have copies of documentation anyway

Ideally you need to know the garage that serviced it and speak to them. Previous owners would know this.

You can get the name of the first keeper off the V5 once you get that a paper trail can begin. I found out also who supplied my car and phoned them as I am always sceptical of buying a used car no matter how good it sounds.

    My trail was,

Initially I did a HPi type very detailed check as this car and I will have to co-exist for a "very" long time together.
I phoned the leasing company who confirmed the return mileage and the date it was checked in.
I phoned BCR to check the date the vehicle arrived at their Auction site (pedantic I know!)
I phoned the supplying dealer who had no record of any warranty work done on the chassis number
I tried to phone the company who had leased the car as I managed to wangle their name out of them, sadly they had gone belly up so the paper-trail went cold.

It also depends on just which rental outfit had the car, some a way! better than others, but I suggest speaking nicely to their customer service department, throw yourself at their mercy so to speak and charm the info out of them as it should have an incredibly detailed log it just comes down to how persuasive you can be (it's what I do as a profession so I have a slight unfair advantage )
