    Default Insignia 2.0 CDTi 160

I don't know about you guys, but I have thought the Insignia 2.0 CDTi 160 is not that great on fuel, I don't hammer it about and mainly sit at 60mph on the M'ways. But the trip only shows an average of about 38mpg.

So last week I did 400 miles in one run whilst at work and then re-filled and calculated the mpg. The result was 39.2mpg average. According to the book, 42.2mpg is the official combined figure for the 2.0 CDTi 160 Automatic, so I guess it's not far out.

Which wasn't as bad as I thought as there was alot of cruising, and also a blasts here and there.

So I have filled up with the new Shell Fuel Saver Diesel and will take it easy, not exceeding 60 mph to see how things go. But I reckon it can be improved upon. Report back later.

I suppose its 'newness' and extra weight means its going to be a bit more thirsty than the CDTi Vectra's but it can only get better

plus the vectra cdti is a 1.9 rather than the 2.0 and automatics always use more fuel than manuals.

plus depends on the miles the engine still might be a bit tight so the mileage will increase once the engine loosens up a bit.

I'm on 21000 miles so it should have loosened off by now. The engine size between the 1.9 and 2.0 is nothing really.

    1.9 is 1910cc
    2.0 is 1956cc

So I reckon it's mainly a marketing decision to call the new one 2.0.

My 1.9 150 (EDS 200 PS) has 15.5k and will acheive around 50-55 mpg on motorway runs but I have driven standard Vec 150's with around 20k on the clock and on one run acheived 60 mpg. I would say with it being a new model the engine may be tighter for a little longer and therefore mpg should still improve over time.

Hi guys, my 58 reg Vectra 1.9cdti 150 auto has been given 42mpg local and going to work, but on a run 55-58mpg is acheivable if driven carefully and to the speed limit. I have got 20K miles on the clock. I have gone full tank to full tank and calculated the mpg to be correct.

One thing I have noticed is the Insignia allows you to change gear at lower revs than the Vec did. Ie 1500 revs on the Insignia. So I am going to try driving my Insignia at lower revs and see how i get on.

I know its a different car but my company Astra (1.3 cdti) took about 30k before i statred to return decent fuel economy figures, so maybe its still a bit tight.
