    Default EGR - Mechanics...

How does the valve work, Is the plunger supposed to be solid when off the car. Think i may have jammed mine as its solid after a clean.

Should it be free moving etc?

    cheers

    Thumbs up

if you are talking about the solenoid part then yes the plunger should move freely.

follow the how 2 on drilling the 3mm hole then knock the solenoid out, clean, lube and replace.

by the way it took some force to knock the solenoid out

once thats done then i spray wd40 into the 3mm hole once a week to keep squeaky clean

    cheers

Both parts should be free to move, the solenoid plunger should take next to no effort to move in and out. The actual valve should also be free to move in and out although this obviously requires more pressure to compress the spring but it should open and close smoothly.

Everytime I have cleaned my EGR it has been the valve that has been stuck and the solenoid has been fine.
In order to clean it the last time I took the solenoid part off following the How 2 then gave the valve part a good blast with a pressure washer, more effective than carb cleaner imo and then dried and oiled. Has been fine since.

I'm getting confused with the valve and the plunger, the spring loaded plunger pushed in when i cleaned it, and since has not come back out. and when cleaning it - it felt solid... will it be that throwing up the EML.

Cant see it being anything else as the car is running perfectly, just the EML is on since cleaning and blanking the EGR - and cleaning the TB...

    hi

the plunger is part of the solenoid that allows the valve to open. iIt has a small spring inside it but you can't see that until you deconstruct it.

if it went in not to come back out then at a guess it would mean that the solenoid might be seized in which case you'll have to knock it out to see the interior state....

the valve is spring operated too but that spring is visible when you remove the valve part from the solenoid .

I'm sure you mean the solenoid is sticking but let us know more.

have you followed the How 2 on EGR clean?

    cheers

I'll have to get a photo up as its totally different to the others in the how 2 with it being a 2.2 petrol...

But the plunger should come up and down freely when off the car, is that correct?

Mines stuck fast or seems to be... but its not been in limp mode at all?!?
