    Default HVAC Issues

    Ok guys,

My Aircon and the ventilation/heating system all work fine but.......

when I turn my aircon off and leave the fan running, the car smells like an OLD WET DOG!

I have read the thread which recommends the use of an aircon deodoriser but have also read other online material which involves removing the pollen filter and spraying a dettol like substance into the system which will kill all the mould and bacteria removing the smell

    Has anyone tried these things?

I need a way to remove the smell permanently, not just for a week

Have a look at the above. I've used the one from comma and it worked well.

Open up the panel for the pollen filter take the filter out and clear the big drain at the bottom also replace the pollen filter and run one of those air con cleaning cans. That should solve the problem.

ok i have found some of this stuff in halfords. I am intriqued by this webpage though.

Is this really saying what I think it's saying.

Aircon clean for £3.99 (the comma stuff costs 12 quid)
Aircon recharge for a tenner (mine cost £35 quid)

    what gives here??

Those are the labour charges if you want Halfords to carry out the work after you have bought the stuff.

I did all that and it's sorted . Not only does it not smell anymore, the fan speeds have increased and it nearly blows my head off on the highest setting, the pollen filter was not too bad but the sheer amount of black gunk in the bottom of the drain was unbelievable.

I must have pulled out about 4/5 handfulls of black crap and leaf litter.

How does all this get in there, the gaps in the plastic cover are quite small

Edit: I also broke the right hand pollen filter retainer

ok, the problem here was with the 'wet dog smell' on turning off the aircon, i have the same smell but when turning the aircon ON. i have changed the pollen filter & the drain under it was completely clear. also ran an aircon deodoriser recently (after fitting the new filter) & it was really nice using the aircon, smelled really nice. the wet dog smell only seems to happen when the car has sat in the sun all day.

    anyone any ideas?
