2.2dti Silicone boost pipes fitted (photos included)

After some problems with my vacuum pipes (holes and nicks) I decided to replace all of them with red silicone ones.

I have seen the threads with the 1.9cdti pipes being replaced but there only seemed to be 2 of them. With the 2.2dti it was a bit more of a network of pipes.

The original pipes were 2mm with 4mm connectors.

I have replaced with all 4mm pipes. I was worried about the size difference causing any potential issues whilst driving but I cant notice the difference when driving between the 2 sizes.

Are there no 2.2dti who might find this interesting/helpful with their boost issues?

I wonder if by having the hoses twice the diameter as the original,s you are overworking the vacuum actuattor,s .
I suppose only time will tell ,keep the forum informed if you start having any problems.

Got a 2.2 Dti myself and its the next thing to do on my list as have found a few of the rubber ends starting to perish and loosing vacume / ovgerworking the pump just waiting for the pipe to arrive will post pics up once done but its always good to know someone has gone down the same route
once you start though the rest of the engine bay looks out of place and then you find yourself detailing the whole thing

I know what you're saying. The only thing I have noticed is a tiny delay in the lower revs when I press the accelerator very lightly. I think its the EGR opening and closing. But I'm not sure if that was there before or not. Under normal acceleration it pulls fine especially when the turbo kicks in. I couldn't find 2mm pipes originally (guess I wasn't looking hard enough) but have now ordered some and will replace the 4mm with 2mm just to see if I can see a difference. Its only a 15-20 minute job cutting the pipe to size and replacing the originals so will let you all know how it goes. The only time I'm getting to do this is in my lunch break at work as I have a 5 week old baby at home who demands all my attention!

PS I bought 4 meters of piping and I probably used 3 meters or maybe a little bit over. Buy 4meters just to be safe!

I was only talking about this same subject the other day!!.
Because silicone is an inert substance it does not wear in the same way that ordinary rubber does.The reason they are not fitted as standard,IMO,is that it would cost slightly more to fit, so the manufacturers wont do it because it would cut down profits etc,etc so F**K the motorist!!

Mmm... I like this, so i have just ordered some. Not going 4mm but have ordered 3mm

Well my 2mm pipes arrived this morning so put them on in my lunch break. Thought I'd try blue pipes instead of red and glad I did! Much nicer.

I'm happy to report that I didn't need the 4mm connectors. The 2mm silicone stretched over the nozzles nicely for a snug fit. I haven't had time to test it yet but I will report back and let you all know if the slight lag has gone. Here are some pics:

That looks much better, now all you need is an engine bay detail and the hoses will look ace.
Incidently where did you get the tubing from.
