What year is your car and has it had the handbrake lever spring recall?

Not uncommon this mate, I get the same with mine from time to time is seems to be to do with the auto adjuster in that, as the rear brake pads wear, seems like the piston in the caliper is a bit on the slow side to wind itself out a bit to compensate (at least that's my theory!!) what I tend to do is , with the engine running, pump the pedal a few times then keep it pressed and yank the handbrake up and down vigorously a few times and this sorts it for a while , until the next wear stage!! but certainly know what you mean by the noise it makes , sounds like something has or is about to break!! when it does it HTH

Is this noise coming from the handbrake lever in the car?

Mine does this too. Sounds like its slipping off the ratchet doesn't it? I keep expecting it to slip off completely. Does anyone here know if this was part of the handbrake recall issue?

Just thought I'd mention that the return spring I don't think with cure the horrible handbrake noise, as mine has been done and still makes this noise from time to time as mentioned in my earlier post, it would appear that all the spring does is to ceate a tighter fit as it were to the ratchet assembly to help it lock more securely onto the ratchet teeth.
