I have been cutting the lawn for when we go away, whilst the house will not be empty, it came to me, why do we cut the grass and clean the house and generaly tidy up about the place before we go on holiday when we will not be there to admire our had work, I wonder why we do it..I am sure the neighbours would not even notice if you never cut the lawn or tidied up, best to the tidieing up when you get back I suppose, I will have plenty of that to do I dare say.

best to do all the mundane work before going on holiday so its not a major task when you get back. otherwise you'll be on your holiday thinking about the lawn over growing! not the best way to relax!

I've always found the keeping up with the Jones' routine to be a positive effect, anyone who has a trashy neighbour use this tactic, if all yours looks so much better and they notice, they will all of a sudden pull up socks and try to compete, it's human nature really, the end product is the whole street ends up looking nicer, and that always does things to the resale price as we all know.

Enjoy your hols Ed, I prolly wont see you for a few weeks, we're off down to Mickeyland AF soon, well over the other side anyway, but I'm gonna go Union Street way during the trip anyway, if i see him, I'm gonna try to speak to him and see if the penny drops, if it doesn't I'll call him when I return and jog his memory

My bonkers mad nan bless her, always used to insist on tidying up and clearing away before she left the house - just in case any burglars broke in and thought she ran a messy house!!

My dad was telling me today that one day during the week he was walking back to his parked car and a lady asked if he had 10p as she was short for the meter. He gave a 50p coin as thats the smallest he had. She was ever so grateful and when he drove past on his way out she was waving and smiling. It made my dads day that for 50p he had saved someone so much grief and hassle. Thats the sort of bloke you are Ed.

On the flip side, last thursday night a teenager in house a few doors down over the road had his window wide open blaring his "house music" a full blast. It was 10:30 at night. A neighbour told him to turn it down and shut his window. He turned the music off and proceeded to throw his CD's out over the street. No repsect for anyone including himself and his property. Now thats the sort that would ask for 10p for the meter and if you didnt have it call you an a55hole and walk away, cos something hadnt been handed to him.

Whats happening to the guy who appreciates a gift, who cuts his lawn, tidies his house and washes his car before he goes on holiday?

dont ask why Ed, just be very proud that you do!
