    Default Reliable or not ?

    Hi all,

I have never owned a Vectra, i have been on the lookout for a new car for a while now, after much deliberation and looking at different cars, i decided to start the hunt for a Vectra.. After reading threads on this (And a few other) Forums, it seems that they can be very unreliable.. Am i just reading the wrong posts ?

are there models that are more reliable than others, or am i worrying for nothing ?

    Cheers

    Go for the 3.2 v6 GSi or Vxr 2.8 v6 T
But they can be a bit thirsty
And these two are very reliable

The thing is mate, when a motor goes wrong thats the only time anyone will write about it....no matter what the car.
Like all cars there are certain things to look for depnding what model and in particular, what engine. There is a lot of hate for vectra but their rival, the Mondeo, isn't without it's faults; like the diesels that like to eat injectors and injector pumps.....
It may help if you said what your were after as in petrol or diesel?

    Cheers,

Yeh i do understand that there are not many posts made, from people that just fancy telling everyone how well their car is running lol

I am looking for a 2.0t SRI ... I wasn't sure whether to go for a diesel or not.. The car will mainly be used by my missus through the week for, school runs..etc.. As i have a work van.. I just want something nice to have a bit of fun in on the weekends and when i'm not at work. So it was suggested that a diesel wouldn't really be needed.

I haven't decided on anything for definite, so any advice would be appreciated

ETA: I did try a Focus a while ago, but couldn't get comfotable in the poxy thing ! Not really a fan of the Mondeo.. Have considered a 325i, and have taken a Mk6 Golf for a test drive and loved it... But they can be expensive.

I have a 2.0T and chose that specificly because they are generally regarded as being one of the most reliable (engines are shared with Saab 93). 2.2's are pretty good too, but can suffer from timing chain failure. The diesels are really good but have quite a few little thing s that can go resulting in quite expensive work.

Your choice of car depends on so many factors
    Typical daily and weekly use
    Mileage
    Availability
    Costs

If you are a high mileage (more than 20K miles per year) driver, then diesel is the preferred option

If you are going to be in the car for more than 2 hours per day, then go for the highest trim level

If you need to be available at short notice, then go for a low mileage car with warranty

If money is tight, then look at the smaller engines; a compromise of economy for performance
However larger engines will typically last longer but typically at the cost of being more expensive

When you compare what the various manufacturers have and offer, VX only warranty up to 3 years 60K miles
However, you can extend this up to a further 5 years (with an option to include servicing and maintenance) and 200K miles
I typically do 35K miles year, so extended mine to 4.5 years and 120K miles, including the servicing option
No other manufacturer was willing to extend that far

As for reliability, there are thousands of Vectra in use every day so failures will happen
Out of the last 3 years mine has been "out of use" for about 12 days
My previous Mondeo Mk3 was "out of use" for about 110 days
Prior to that my Vectra B was "out of use" for about 40 days

as mentioned above matey the 2.0T is highly regarded! even by people that dont have them! plus turbo prices have taken a lil nosedive recently so never a better time to start shopping. dont overpay for one despite their comparitive rarity there will always be another one!

good luck with the hunt and we want pics of the one you choose!

if you do decide on a 2.0t and you come across an edition 100 buy it they will hold there value better than the other 2.0t's.

overall a good choice in engine.
