    Default Excessive soot

Hi all car is as listed below in signature with all mods listed too

I have never noticed this before but had my box on now for over 4000 miles and all has been well

I have a dpf fitted and when my wife pulled up today in the car is was visibly putiing out a dark grey black smoke not loads but noticeable even with a dpf on

What will cause excessive smoke on tickover once I floored it To the redline it all poorer out in a cloud and there was non visible car was not doing a regen as fuel was at 0.1 gal/hour

    Any help cheers guys

Tbh a box will cause excessive smoke that will exceed what the dpf can handle so it will smoke a bit. If it is pushing alot out then there could be an issue but if it is a little then I wouldn't be too concerned.

    Does the dpf regenerate?

Have you tried turning the box down?

Is it a box specific to DPF vehicles (same as non-DPF, but you can't turn them up as much)?

It could be due to a number of other things that may not immediately seem likely to cause your problem.

Have you checked the oil level lately?

Box cant be adjusted it only smokes a little bit

Oil is fine just below the full Mark

And no split hoses or anything like that

Regens as normal no excessive regens so just wondering that's all tried with box off and still same not all the time normally only smokes when it has not been booted for a while ie steady town driving not going above 2400rpm for a while of I boot I then does no smoke at all on tick over

Noticed when driving today only when on full throttle there is quite a bit black soot cumin
Out of exhaust noticeable in the wing
Mirror can't see it in back window but see it in my wing mirror looking at the rear bumper

Any ideas no loos of boost and nonsplit pipes

Is the dpf not doing it's job and no catching the soot would I not get a fault
Code for this saying dpf is blocked

if the dpf was blocked you would get a fault code and it wouldn't rev freely, probably go into limp mode too. Maybe the dpf only catches soot at lower revs as inside a dpf, its just a straight through honeycombe box. so perhaps on full throttle, its actually pushing some soot thru rather than catching it. The back boxes are also different internally on cars with dpf's, less baffles.

Grey smoke usually indicates that the injection timing is incorrectly set or that the fuel is not being atomised correctly.

This can be as a result of over-fuelling.

Remember that the basic tuning boxes are not digitally controlled and will over fuel the engine even at tickover speeds. The digital boxes can be programmed to 'skip' fuelling where it's not needed.

If there is alot of it then I would take action. If - when the box is off - there is loss of power too then I deffo get it looked at. Black smoke is usually an indication of a rich Air Fuel mixture too - ie because of split hose, faulty turbocharger but they are usually accompanied by lack of power.

Been out today an there is def lack of acceleration too all the way through the rev range as if it is choked still getting max boost so not loosing any pressure but it takes longer to spin up and especially at low revs if I am in 3rd gear doing 1300 revs and I floor it then there is clouds of smoke thick black clouds bellowing out and leaves a trail behind like a steam train also If I boot into the redline it smokes all the way through very excessive I have no split hoses as I am not loosing boost at all it is just really slow to respond

My egr is blanked so it cant be that sticking

Could it be the dpf gettin blocked up

I will check the air filter tonight and read the dog saturation on op com tonite and will report these figures to try and help me eliminate why the problem is.

    Any more ideas pls help

Tuning box been on for 5months with no excessive smoke but only started smoking heavily this week with slight loss of power today
