Default Rounded off sump plug... any ideas?

Alright boys? I've got a little dilemma. I offered to help change the oild on my father-in-law's volvo S80 before he goes on holiday on saturday. We got it up on the ramps, found the sump plug no worries. But guess what. It's stuck fast. We've tries allsorts. Anyone got any tips? Oh and by the way..... the bolt head is more or less knackered now!

I had this with a cotterpin on my sons moped, wouldnt budge for love or money. Pops came round, the bar was about 10mm, he drilled an 8mm hole into it nearly all the way through which relieves the pressure on the outer edge, in your case the thread. Worth a go IMO HTH

Just hammer an old socket on it and twist it off

    Various things you could try.

Hammer a smaller socket onto it.

Drill the centre then use a bolt extractor to remove it.

Weld a nut or an old socket to it then undo it.

Mole grips are possibly worth a go!

Cheers for the ideas guys. We're having another go on thursday. I think we're gonna go with a combination of things. Probably gonna start with filing the head into a square and getting a BIG adjustable on the job. Failing that it's 18" stilsens (they're called an 'Englander' in Germany, Sweet!). then last resort. remove sump pan and put it on the workbench. I'll keep you posted.

I tried everything , and then the stillies were the last resort , they whipped it out a treat - the beauty of them is , the harder you turn them , the tighter they grip.
Let us know what happens mate.
