Default Ebay help - returned goods

Hi, I sold an item on ebay but the seller could not be bothered to pick it up (sent via courier) during this time we exchanged "pleasantries" & the item has now been returned, what do I refund ? ebay will not advise me on this! (???) I do not want to refund 100% as he has been offensive but at the same time he has paid for goods he will now never recieve..

To be honest, I think you should really be taking the professional route and refunding everything he has paid, regardless of whether he was rude to you. Personal feelings shouldn't come into business transactions, particularly if it's a customer you don't know. Reputations are hard to build and difficult to keep.

Why did he return the goods? Do you state a returns policy? i.e do you state that items returned you will only refund the cost of item and not the cost of P&P?

the courier tried to deliver 3 times over 8 days, & left a card every time, awaiting his instructions. I feel I did "my part" as in I sent the item same day, it hit his doorstep within 24 hrs (I have proof of this) but he could not be ars** to do anything but abuse me! at best I feel like refunding everything bar postage, I dont mind having neg feedback as I am sure I will get it removed within days once ebay read the e/mails we sent to each other. Also is there a time limit I have to adhere to ?

    It's a tough one.
I sold a brand new gas valve on e-bay, the seal on the box had been opened but the valve was brand new. The guy started e-mailing me saying I had sold him a 2nd hand valve. So I agreed for him to return it, at my expense, and lo and behold I received a knackered, 2nd hand valve. The cheeky t£$t must have fitted my nice new one and sent me his old one. BUT how do I prove that I sent him a brand new valve???????????????

Unfortunately matey, sometimes with e-bay, you just have to take it on the chin!!

Still does not give him a good reason to abuse you.

Just give him his money back and cut your losses....pain in the bum, i know, but saves all the hassle!!

Based on what you have said so far I would not refund and i've been using Ebay for nearly 10 years, the things is... theres always gonna be someone you can't please. I sold a genuine set of brand new Ford Mondeo mats, I got feedback saying they were cheap copies, even tho I know 100% they came from Ford.

Ditto. Not your concern he couldn't be bothered collecting it after a shut notice was left.
