Default Vectra Newbie with an exhaust question

I bought a 56 plate CDTI Sri 150 about 8 weeks ago, and now, 4000 miles later I'm wanting to change the rear slightly.

While at work, I saw the same car with what I think is a VXR diffuser and twin pipes.

Now I've done a few searches on the forum and I'm a bit confused as which way to go to get the twin exhausts.

I've bought the diffuser which I'm not sure wethewr to get painted the same colour as the car, ( silver on the V5) or do it black?

The main question is. Is there a vectra on the market with a dual exit exhaust that would be a direct fit/replacement if I could find one at a breakers yard, or is the best option to go to powerflow or similar, or go down the route of chopping mine up, fitting this "Y" part etc ??

I've done some reading around the forum & theres mixed views, but no one mention a factory direct fit replacement.

    Any help greatly appreciated

    Phil

There's a few companies that do a bolt on replacement, think there is a cobra system on ebay?!? that gets posted to your door and fit yourself... I'd get one made up personally so you can supervise and get the tips you want, some dont look right on the C IMO...

As for the diffuser, my SRI one is colour coded. but when i get the VXR one i'm going to do it matt black, or at least only colour code the top edge (mines pre face without VXR skirt)... Think C/C these the back end looks a little big...

    Hi Phil,

I plan on doing a similar alteration once my funds allow, but I plan on using a 2.2 direct 2.0T twin pipe set up and the same diffuser as is on the car now (facelift CDTi 150) I am more after the subtle upgrade than the full VXR one.

You can fit a right hand back box from a petrol 2.0 / 2.2 / 3.2V6 im pretty sure. You will need to buy the Y-piece.

These engine came with dual exit from the fabactory but will look standard. (The same as your current left back box)

Otherwise, you could use genuine VXR exhaust but this will probably be very costly !!!

I got a full decat system from Powerflow for around £400 and very pleased with. Its made to suit the car and for me as I was using a JDL rear skirt it needed to suit that.

If you are using std VXR valance I would have thought it would be straight forward y pipe, right hand and left hand box and bingo!

Thanks for the advice, gives me a few options to think about. The 2.2 exhaust that Derek mentioned mite be the option I go for if it's a straight bolt on part for my car as I dontcreally want it looking over stated and certainlydont want baked bean tins hanging off the back of my car, each to thier own, but Im a bit old for that now.

3.0 V6 has the twin exhaust system too. Not that it makes much difference, apart from weighing more and looking better.

VX seem to be going 'cheap' on us with their cars now. Having just noted that they have, for 2010, deleted (amongst other things) the 'sports' exhaust outlet on the Insignia SRI 1.8 petrol and 130/160 SRI Insignia diesels!

Well thanks for the advice guys, I'm gonna get an aftermarket one priced up tomorrow as it gives me more options then, but if not I'll go for a VX bolt on.

I've been around the block with a lot of cars/forums over the years & its nice to join one and get good responses, especially to a newbie, I wish I could say the same for all of them..

    Cheers

    Phil
