Default Planning to buy a vectra

Hi guys I am thinking about buying a vectra off my mate. I was wondering what I should look out for specific to the model?

    It's a 2003 2L Club DTI 16v & done 82k miles.
I beleive this has a timing chain rather than a cam belt? I am slightly concerned about them snapping after reading about so many 2.2L engines snapping them. Are the 2L models less likely to snap? Would you reccomend getting it replaced?

Also what are the pros and cons of this model?

    Look forward to the replies,
    Cheers

    Hi Fez and welcome,

The 2.0 DTi has a chain so no replacement req'd. If you read the thread that's posted above it will make you worry but every model of vectra has its bad/weak points.

I have had my 2.2 DTi for two years and it's been a great car only an egr problem which I replaced with a second hand one for £50 and its been on a year without fault.

As with any purchase.... service history and condition of car. A thorough test drive or independant inspection. It stil amazes me how many people hand over the cash to quick and then moan about all the problems the car had

Look for oil leaks underneath and have a torch to check all the coil springs as they have been known to snap.

Good luck and pictures a must if you buy

    Jon
