Default Should it stay or should it go

    Hi All,

ill try and keep this as brief as possible but its a bit of a long story.

I brought a 2.0t sri 54 plate. drove it home and it died on me after half an hour. it started again 10 min later, died again 15-20 mins later luckily next to a garage, guy ran diag and reported back crankshaft sensor.

called the garage next morning to get a repair sorted.

showed car to my mate who noticed that car wasnt taxed, called the garage as they hadnt informed me of this, they say i should have checked.

Also in the ad it said about a multi changer which i couldnt find.

next day picked up the part which looked wrong as guy that prev looked at car pointed to what he thought was the crankshaft sensor when actually it was something else. came home and tried to find where it was but no joy, went into boot to get some tools and saw that the carpet was falling into the boot well, lifted the carpet and no spare wheel.

so ive had quite a bad experiance with the car/garage so far. and this is where i need help. do i just take it back and demand my money back or do i try and get them to resolve the issues.

The body work of the car is in good condition, its got full vauxhall service history, 45,000 miles on the clock, drives nice as long as you dont drive longer than half an hour and its nice and quick.

    what do i do???

Thanks in advance and sorry for long post

was the car sold as seen> ??
or was it specified to have road tax

if it was advertised to have a multichanger then it should have had one

regarding the missing spare wheel -again if it was advertised with one then it should -

judging by the sound of it service history or not. it sounds like there could be lots of minor niggles that need sorting - the question is do you think they will sort them - or do you want to walk away now

0-Large smile ......every time it's driven

Why are you doing the repair?give it back to the supplying garage and tell them to sort it.Tax is your fault imo,the changer should be there if it was advertised with one.If you are generally happy just get them to resolve these issues before moving on

it wasnt advertised with road tax so i suppose that is my fault, i just assumed that they would have said there was none on there as they knew i was driving it away there and then meaning that i would be driving illegally.

In regards to the spare wheel im certain that if yor car does not have a spare wheel or other suitable puncture repair option then it fails the MOT. ive never brought a car and not have it supplied with a spare wheel.

in response to giving the car back to the garage to get it repaired i would but i need the car for work and the garage is oround 50min drive away so the car would die after half an hour and then how ever many other times until i made it to the garage.

Im very happy with the car i just wish that these little issues were not present. here is a link for the advert

The thread above is a sticky which outlines your rights.

Been a while since I read it but I am sure it says that you have a certain amount of time to reject the car.

Threaten them with this if they dont sort out the issues on the car.

BTW i am sure I read somewhere that failure to carry a spare tyre will not constitute a MOT failure, so therefore it must not be
a legal requirement to have one.

You paid well over the odds for that matey, 4k is more what its worth imo, I bet the dealer has seen the 2 slots in the cd70 nav and assumed that its a double cd player. nowhere in the ad does it mention the spare wheel or tax so you might be fighting a losing battle with those I'm afraid. However as you bought it from a dealer you by law have to have a minimum of a months warranty on any second hand vehicle so get him to do the crank sensor FOC and return the sensor you bought and get your money back.

speak to these people - http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/
they'll tell you what your rights are, how to deal with it all, the procedures etc. very helpful, you speak to a real person too, which is nice.

It isn't an MOT fail, I always have a bootful of stuff (tools, fishing gear, daughters bike etc) and never have I been asked to take it out so they can check under the boot carpet/spare wheel.
