    Default V6 CDTi pulse/surge at 2800rpm

If I build up the revs slowly to 2800rpm (e.g. exiting a roundabout in 2nd gear) and then touch the pedal ever so gently I feel the engine surging up to approx 3000rpm.

    Is this normal?

I'll test on mine tonight but I think I have also observed this sudden increase in revs through this range
I suspect this is the power band for this engine, in the range 2500 to 3000 rpm

However the majority of my driving is at the lower revs, at roundabouts I am rarely at more than 2000rpm

I was preparing to give it the berries then. I usually drive below 2000rpm when I'm tootling along.

Living in Cumbernauld I have access to quite a variety of roundabouts
In order to recreate this, could you advise (speeds in mph please) :
    Typical road speed limit
Typical entry speed, gear, and revs at roundabout
Typical speed, gear, and revs on roundabout
Typical speed, gear, and revs on exit of roundabout

Most of the roundabouts are 40mph, 50mph, or NSL (70mph dual carriageway)
I am usually in 3rd gear on entry and on exit
There are also two roundabouts where I know I am in 4th gear throughout, but there are two where I have to use 1st gear!

You don't really need a roundabout to recreate this. Try accelerating slowly in second gear up to 2800rpm and then hold the revs for a few seconds. Then give it a bit more throttle, gently, and you should feel the surge to 3000rpm.

Mine usually does it in 2nd and 3rd. Can't really feel it in any other gear.

As above, I need to know what speeds you experience this
I can then decide where is the best place to recreate this

I will do this shortly, and have now printed this page out

Here are my results for 2800 rpm to 3000 rpm

    2nd gear : 32 mph - 40 mph
    3rd gear : 48 mph - 55 mph
    4th gear : 65 mph - 70 mph

This suggests it is the gearing
Also at this rev range it is the maximum torque
In the lower gears this results in greater acceleration, which the body can feel
In the higher gears there is less acceleration, which the body does not feel to the same degree

Equally, for those speeds I would be using 3rd gear throughout, entering a roundabout at 30 mph and exiting at 30 mph, then changing to 4th gear to accelerate up to 40 mph

Driving in 2nd gear at 30mph, on high revs would not be recommended on this gear box!

    Please explain!

As for the "surging" issue. I can't say that I've noticed anything on the wifes V6 that appears to be that noticeable.

Maybe switching off the ECU and then switching it back on again (in the time honoured fashion) will clear any anomolies?

I very rarely drive in 2nd gear above 3000rpm / 30mph to 40mphThis is the power band for this engine; not recommended for this gearbox

You don't get on the "diesel tuning" forum much do you? LOL

I've heard about the problems, but the anecdotal evidence to the contrary will always win through.

Went out in the Vectra this morning and didn't notice any untoward surges at any point in the rev range. Used to get them all the time with the tuning box fitted, particularly when at low speeds in low gears.
