    Default no power

    i was driving my car last night and all of a sudden it lost all power and cut out wont start now. i have been told that the fault is with the crank sensor. does this sound right.

    if so does anyone no how to replace the crank sensor

    i have got to this point but can now see that the crank belt has snapped but cant get it out i am guessing this is causing the car to not start will it have caused any more issues

    That's the "timing" belt - it makes sure that the valves open and close at the correct "time", i.e. when the piston isn't at the top of the cylinder. As the belt has snapped, it's highly likely that the valves and the piston will have collided in at least one cylinder. To find out what damage has occurred you will have to have the cylinder head removed and that will expose the valves on the underside of the head and also the pistons in the engine block.

    ouch

    how many miles had you done?

    belts should last on 1.9 cdti 150 for 10 years of 90000 miles according to Vx....
    having said that i got mine changed at 82000 and good job as it was not far from failure

    what engine are you running. i'll check for you when they suggest changing it.

    if it dies before that point i'd reckon you have a good case to take them to task for premature belt failure.

    its a 1.8 elegance done about 85k i think

    timing belt snapped.
    you will need new head if you have tools and balls you can do it your selff

    Are the valves 'interference' or 'non-interference' with regards to the pistons on the 1.8's ?
