    Question Basic tuning help needed

I'm 19 and recently bought a 07 vectra Sri as my first car.

Doing the odd bits and bobs to the appearance but think it's time to add a bit power. Not looking to spend a great amount as I wouldn't be keeping the car for that long.

Looked on other threads and they all seemed a bit specific on tuning mods.

I want help on what I should do to the engine for more power and where to go for it.

I live in the Sheffield area but I am willing to travel for highly recommended places and great deal.

    Thanks for your time

I have the same engine. (I also got mine at 19!) There isn't much you can do really. The the air-box mod and put a K&N panel filter in which helps the pick-up slightly. After that there is not much. There is a place in cheshire that reckons they can get 165hp out of it with a remap but I haven't done that.

If you still need it faster just chuck out some weight. For a while I drove around without much feul, with out the spare wheel/jack boot floor and battery box lid. It made quite a difference!

I would personally focus on looks its not worth it in all honesty you pay like £300 for a max of about 10bhp gain. If you are keen on a remap, do the panel filter, de-restrict the airbox, new exhaust system on there etc then do the remap as it will be more beneficial.

I took my car to remap science in Bradford, and they did an awesome job. They only charge £150 for a generic map too.

I would respectfully disagree with what has been said here, the VVT engines can get some very respectable gains with a remap. 12-15bhp with no other mods and removal of any flat spots, has to be worth £150???

As said, the main basic things to do for power would be air filter and airbox mod (removing the plastic trumpet thing in the airbox), a new exhaust system and a remap.

Idealy you should have the remap done last, and if posible have a custom map, not a generic one.

I recently had my gsi remapped at a place called hi-tech motorsports in cradley heath, birmingham during a mondeo vs vectra remap day. It was £150 for a custom remap with a printout before and after, none of this, oh ye we added 25bhp and you'll just have to take my word for it.

The days are organised by jacks and totalguy, if you wanna pm them on here im sure they'll provide you with the information for the next day they arrange (although i think the next day is £175 and its coming up pretty soon)

So long as you're aware that you arent going to have massive gains on anything other than a turbo then you'll be fine. I only gained roughly 15bhp on my 3.2gsi but the torque through the entire rev range is something else, improves the ride dramatically imo. Thats the difference between custom and generic. Custom will do a map to your needs and to your specific car, not just squeeze as much bhp as posible for figures on paper.

Midpoint garage is the place where the holy grail of 165hp for a z18xer is quoted. I wish some one would have it done just to write up the power delivery of a mapped 1.8vvt.
