Angry SPECS - What is so difficult to understand?

Right guys, time for a moan!

Some roadworks have recently been set up on the M60 around Ashton with a speed limit of 40mph and SPECS average speed cameras spaced frequently and on every slip road.

It is surely very easy to understand how these devices work (especially with big signs stating Average Speed Check)? ... It doesn't matter how fast you drive past each camera, the fact is if you reach the second camera in the pair in a shorter amount of time it would have taken if you were travelling at an average speed of 40 you will be at least £60 and 3 points worse off.

This surely isn't rocket science ... yet every day in the past three days these have been in place and operable I have seen no end of cars flying past in other lanes, some braking for each camera, others not. The only conclusion I can think of is that the cars are either stolen or driven by complete idiots?

It makes me so angry that these people are being so stupid and ploughing more money back to the council to install yet more speed cameras (while I believe this particular installation is valid and just as it is designed to protect the workers, a lot of the money will be used to install cameras that are purely sited for cash generation and nothing else)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh, been wanting to get that off my chest for days ... I feel so much better!!

    Dave

They have got them on the M56 by the Runcorn junction also, in the local paper about 3 months ago there was an article saying how there were people being done for doing 50 mph plus highest speed they had had recorded was 89 mph, agrree with you that htey are a good idea to try and protect the workmen bout your right about the fact the money will just be ploughed back into putting up more cash generators

We had them for months now on a stretch of dual carriageway with a 70 limit...and it still amazes me the amount of folk who brake for each specs and sit at 60mph the whole way!!

bandrew - i got a taster of this a few weeks ago when i was up there for training! they're placed on normal roads, with 30 mph speed limits, and there are LOADS of them!!!

regarding the variable speed cameras, is it fair that the bikers get away with speeding just because they don;t have a reg plate on the front! they already get to zip through the traffic as it is!!

On the M4 today they have the sign 'average speed check' BUT no SPEC ... so now, people will not slow down when there is a real system in place

Driven through those today, was a bit confusing looking for the cameras and not seeing anything. People were in general obeying the speed limit but i'm sure that will change when they realise there are no cameras there.
