Default z18xe burning oil or head gasket??

Hi all, my car is using a lot of oil ( 3 litres) in under 700 miles, i originally thought it was rocker cover gasket as oil was leaking down onto manifold.

    IS IT PISTON RINGS?
if you give the car some stick you can see some smoke in the air behind and if you get the revs high about 5000-6000k while stationery there is a lot of smoke,,,,

    IS IT HEAD GASKET?
When you first start the car in the morning there is momentarily a misfire until it clears itself and will run fine all day , i had similar on my old vectra b and that was head gasket on piston number 3 , there is when you rev the car while stationery droplets of oil coming out of the exhaust

    A BIT OF HISTORY
i have only had the car 3 weeks and purchased it with 77,000 miles, at 76,000 miles it had a complete reconditioned head ,head gasket, cambelt and water pump (cambelt snapped apparently), at the same time it was apparently serviced with new plugs , oil and filter.
due to the fact it had a recon head i have discounted the valve stem oil seals and also there is no smoke on start up,

i will be fixing myself and kinda hoping it is head gasket, it would not surprise me really as the guy that did the work strikes me as a bit of a cowboy as i have found 2 bolts missing from alternator, 2 exhaust manifold studs missing and 1 nut missing from manifold, loads of jubilee clips undone etc

Head Gasket sounds good to me but to be doubly sure while the head is off whip the pistons out and hone the bores and put some new rings in, makes sense while the head is off.

Either way the head has to come off, I'm thinking if I do a full strip down I may as well do a bottom end rebuild

I'm having the head off tomorrow after a quick compression test, and I will bear that in mind

i stripped the engine down , and will be stripping bottom end tomorrow, i am going to hone the bores and re-ring the pistons as im certain this is where the problem lies ,
im in 2 minds whether to change the big end bearings while im down there as it makes sense while im there, or do you think im just wasting money ?, i have stripped and repaired many engines but not once have i ever touched the block, is there likely to be any serious consequences or complications if i change the bearings?

    anyway a few pics

this is the state all of the pistons were in

the head was atrocious (when you consider it was only fitted 1500 miles ago ) allegedly and as you can see i am part way on cleaning

here are the pistons after having a clean prior to me taking them out tomorrow ( i thought they would be easier to clean in situ)

just check the shells when you take the big ends off, if there really clean and sliver then they'll be fine to go back in, if theyre scored or brass is showing through they need replacing, make sure the caps stay with the right rod and the pistons go back where they came from. have you got all the torque settings or is there any you need?

the only torque settings i need are for the conrod caps as they are the only ones i cannot find,
