    Default Oldest tyre batch question

What is the oldest tyre you would accept for your car from a tyre fitter?

Most of the tyres I fit are no more than 6 months old
However I witnessed a rather intense argument at a well known branded fast fit centre today

"Look at that manufacturing date, it is 2008, I don't want those tyres, take them off"

I assumed the tyres MUST be under three years old

I wouldn't fit any tyres older than 6 months on my car either tbh just because they will obviously wear whilst being stood and probably lose their shape slightly, 2008?? christ i bet they were a pig to balance after being stood that long. I dont know what the legal view on that is tho.

Tyres won't "wear" whilst sitting on a shelf, they may "degrade"

I pointed it out to the recipient of the tyres (I was there are they are not too confident with car repairs, etc)

I've had tyres before that were different batches, but both still under 6 months old

I was shocked to see one of the two tyres was 2008 and I had to compare both just to make sure I wasn't making an error (WKYR)

From what I can find the maximum age a retailer can sell a tyre is 3 years
However for use the recommended maximum is 6 years

2008 is within the 3 years, but given the big discrepancy it does raise questions about the history of the tyres (sitting on a shelf)

As long as they are stored correctly it's not a problem, however, how do you know where they have been????

most tyre supliers have a rolling 6 month exhange -but the old ones must go somewhere ...... i'm guessing that when people buy one get on free there generally because there old stock from elsewhere
