Default Who is telling the truth??

    Hi Guys
Can someone please tell me which oil to buy for my vectra 1.9 cdti. o7 reg
I do a lot of miles in it as a taxi. Now its out of warranty i take it to a mate for the regular oil changes that i do.
He told me to buy fully syntethic engine oil, It said in my handbook to use fully syntethic oil.
As a taxi driver we get 33% off parts at main dealer which is great,I went in and asked him for oil, filters etc, tapped my reg number in and then he gave me semi syntethic oil,i questioned him as it said full in my hand book, and he said thats only a guide and semi syntethic is best.
    Now I am confused????
    Which oil Should I use?
    Thanks for any advice.
    Mike

Pretty sure most people will tell you that fully synthetic is best for that engine.

I use castrol magnatec 5/30, half price at the minute in tescos, got 6 litres for £25.

Also, if its any help, I buy a service kit off e-bay (genuine vauxhall parts) for about £30.

    It includes oil/air/fuel filter.

So all in all £55 for decent bits, then I do the same......get my mate , who's a mechanic , to fit. He charges £20.

So for £75 your getting decent service for a fraction of the cost of a dealer....or even a back-street garage, PLUS you can be sure of the quality of the goods!!

Semi is cheaper. It should be 5w30 fully synth. However some users use 10w40 semi and 10k oil changes.

TBH as long as it meets or exceeds Vauxhall's spec's then it shouldn't matter if its Fully or Semi Synthetic. Semi is going to be cheaper than fully synthetic. VX spec 5w/30 so IMO you buy the best oil you can afford, it is the heart of the vechicle imo. Avoid the dealers for oil. As Bafoo pointed out Tesco have offers on oil at the moment and Asda did a while back too. £50 worth of Mobil 1 for £16 a few weeks back.

if its doing a lot of miles and your changing the oil regularly 10w/40 semi wont hurt it autodata lists everything from 0w/30 fully synthetic to 10w/40 semi so you can save a good few quid and be alright with semi synthetic.
