    Default 3.0 CDTi EGR Valve

    Has anyone removed/changed the EGR valve on a 3.0 V6 CDTi (Y30DT) engine (as a DIY)?

    I am hoping to clean mine and have tried searching through the HOW 2's to no avail.

    It seems that there is quite a lot in the way, over the top of the EGR unit and was hoping someone can give me a few pointers!!

    PS. Replacement EGR Valve quoted @ £298 +VAT OUCH!!!! - So, me thinks I shall try to clean the existing one first!!

    What symptoms are you suffering to make you consider cleaning / changing the EGR valve?

    Cleaning won't work on the 3.0. It's either working or not. It might be sticking and still work but once it goes (limp mode) your only option is to replace it.

    That's what I had been told previously as well
    However if the car is producing black exhaust smoke the pipe to the turbo may be faulty and need replacing

    Which pipe? The EGR cooler?

    There is a pressure relief pipe from the EGR to the turbo
    This often cracks, air gets in, and results in black exhaust smoke

    not heard of the pipe failure but their are no other 3.0 in the area to break. get more then enough 1.9's to repair.

    as above mate don't touch what aint broke

    why wont cleaning have any advantage?

    It all started when towing our touring caravan on the motorway probably in 5th at around 55mph, i initially thought the turbo had packed in as it just felt like I had no power or acceleration. Stopped the car, and switched ignition off and on and the problem disappeared for about 10 miles until it reappeard only with the spanner light on this time.

    The car had been a little "lumpy" previously and I had thought i had got a fill of dirty deisel, so tried the fuel additive/cleaner and thought the problem had cleared as the spanner light disappeared a few days later and the car seemed to be running ok.

    Towed the caravan a week or so later again and the same thing happened again, loss of power and spanner light on, which again dissappeared after a few days after towing.

    The car does seem a little but sluggish and jerky at low revs now.

    Diagnostics at local indy showed fault with the EGR hence the idea to give it a bit of a clean.

    Its really doing my head in!!!!
