    Default swapping bosch vp44 pump?

    Hi,

Has anyone ever taken a bosch vp44 (psg16, twin socket) from a donor car and put it in their own? Do the two pumps need to be an exact match or can it be a similar pump and therefore change the main ecu from the donor car as well?

I'm in a dilema and a local mechanic is 100% certain he can take a pump from another car and put it into mine even though they're arent an exact match! To do this he is also changing main ecu, etc.. and re-programming to tie in with my car.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. He is charging £250 for new pump + £150 for labour.

I am assuming that this is on a dti mate. You can move the Vp44 from one car to another but itr will require the old pump to be decoded from the other car using Tech 2.

I have heard that it can also be done by using the old pass card from the doner card but I cannot confirm

yes its a dti. the guy said he would do exactly what you described, what's confusing is that i rang the vauxhall dealer and a diesel specialist who both said it could only be done if pumps were an exact match, i.e. 0470504204 number must be same.... in my case the numbers arent exactly the same which is why im worried!!

just wanted to check to see if anyone else did this in the past before i go ahead..

i just changed the engine in my dti and the pump that came with the new engine i knew was coded and a different number to the 1 fitted on my orignal engine i just put my orignal pump on the new engine and all is fine.
i did enquire about using the pump that came with the engine vx said
they need sec code from donor car or vin and n-plate and the sec code ect from my car
    and about 75 pound lol
easy option was just to change pump my self
